Boiler Service
What is a boiler service?
A boiler service is an annual check of your boiler to ensure that the boiler is running correctly, efficiently and safely. A visual inspection takes place inside the boiler which helps identify any potential issues before they become expensive problems down the line. We also check that the boiler has been installed to the manufactures instructions; checking pipework, ventilation, flue, etc.
Boilers should be serviced annually as this maintains your boilers performance, efficiency, safety and keeps the warranty valid (if it comes with a manufactures warranty).
Why should I get my boiler serviced?
Keeping you and your family safe
Any gas appliance has the potential to be dangerous and even fatal, although it's rare that such things happen they still do. Obviously, a gas leak could cause an explosion but it is Carbon Monoxide poisoning which can go unnoticed. Carbon Monoxide is a silent and odourless killer, the main symptoms associated with Carbon Monoxide poisoning are; breathlessness, headaches, nausea, dizziness, collapsing, tiredness and ultimately loss of consciousness. Some of the minor symptoms can be easily overlooked as other common illnesses. This is why it's important to service your boiler regularly by a gas safe engineer.
Catch issues before they become problems
Most of the time homeowners are unaware of any issues, that is until the boiler stops working and you're left with no hot water or heating. During your service, an engineer can pick up on any underlying issues before they become big expensive problems. Ignoring a small issue could lead to a much bigger problem, a costly repair or even a new boiler.
Keeping your warranty valid
With boiler manufacturers offering longer warranty periods (up to 12 years) it is important to keep your boiler servicing up to date. A missed service would invalidate the manufacturer's warranty and if any problems occur, you'll most likely have to pay the full costs of the repair.
Saving money
Although it costs you money to have your boiler serviced, this could be a fraction of the long term running costs of your boiler. The model and age of a boiler will affect its energy efficiency. But by regular servicing your boiler, it can slow down this process and keep your energy bills as low as possible. If your energy bills have a sudden spike in energy consumption this could be a sign your boiler isn't performing correctly. A service can pick up on this change and correct it before it becomes very costly.
Prolonging the life of your boiler
Your boiler is perhaps the single most expensive and valuable appliance in your home, providing hot water and heating for you and your family. So regular servicing will help keep get the most out of your investment. Ensuring your boiler is kept healthy and efficient could help keep it going for much much longer.
